Artist Registry

The White Columns Curated Artist Registry is an online platform for emerging and under-recognized artists to share images and information about their respective practices. The Registry seeks to create a context for artists who have yet to benefit from wider critical, curatorial or commercial support. To be eligible, artists cannot be affiliated with a commercial gallery in New York City.

STATEMENT OF WORK

What is important to me in my work isn't a complex or intellectual concept. Through intuition and humor, nostalgia and conversation, I seek honesty through imagery. Painting has a long and diverse history, but the work that resonates with me has always been that which was made from personality. And while I look back in time for inspiration, the work also presents possible futures and hope. Bright color and movement present a euphoria and gluttony for the present and things to come.

In my work, I give the paint a chance to show off but also make a joke; think of a ballet dancer ending a poetic performance by asking an audience member to pull their finger. How stunning! Finding balance with levity is a welcome challenge. In the end though, I think humans mostly make things to impress a boy or a girl - that seems pretty okay, too.
