Artist Registry

The White Columns Curated Artist Registry is an online platform for emerging and under-recognized artists to share images and information about their respective practices. The Registry seeks to create a context for artists who have yet to benefit from wider critical, curatorial or commercial support. To be eligible, artists cannot be affiliated with a commercial gallery in New York City.

STATEMENT OF WORK

I compose paintings that explore the intersection of digital and physical worlds, reframing video game heroes and icons within the context of art history, mythology, and the self. My work draws parallels between contemporary gaming narratives and the timeless appeal of historical myths and tales, creating a dialogue between these two storytelling traditions.

The paintings come together in a variety of ways: sometimes from memory and imagination, and other times as loose renditions of historical or mythical compositions. Character poses might be inspired by stills from anime or images found in vintage gaming strategy guides. The process is intuitive—I remain reactive to the act of building up a painted image, allowing the work to evolve naturally and embrace unexpected turns along the way.
