Artist Registry

The White Columns Curated Artist Registry is an online platform for emerging and under-recognized artists to share images and information about their respective practices. The Registry seeks to create a context for artists who have yet to benefit from wider critical, curatorial or commercial support. To be eligible, artists cannot be affiliated with a commercial gallery in New York City.

STATEMENT OF WORK

Brandy Wednesday is a Brooklyn based artist who was born in Atlanta, GA. Her paintings are in conversation with the endless possibilities of magic realism, the anti rules of surrealism associated with Tanning, Fini, and Carrington; and concepts which encompass the fourth dimension. Wednesday received her MFA from CUNY Brooklyn College in May 2020 and BFA from the University of Georgia in Painting & Drawing. While working towards her Masters she received a teaching fellowship, travel grant, and material grants. Her work has previously been exhibited at Spring/Break Art Show, New York, NY; Field Projects, New York, NY; Thierry Goldberg, New York, NY; Kai Lin Gallery, Atlanta, GA; and Mint Gallery, Atlanta, GA; among others. Wednesdays’ curatorial projects include StrangeMatterATL; where she put on six shows across Atlanta, featuring female-identifying artists at various stages in their careers. The last iteration, held at B-complex, showed 52 artists, with every southeastern state represented. Her work meanders through inky stains and traversed planes, bringing to life many-eyed women with estranged hair who occupy flat, patterned realms which extend their strange southern, female vision within the world.
