Artist Registry

The White Columns Curated Artist Registry is an online platform for emerging and under-recognized artists to share images and information about their respective practices. The Registry seeks to create a context for artists who have yet to benefit from wider critical, curatorial or commercial support. To be eligible, artists cannot be affiliated with a commercial gallery in New York City.

STATEMENT OF WORK

The presented body of work was completed from 2020 to 2023.

During the covid period I was mostly focused outside of myself

and working as an observationist painter. My interest in landscape

as a readily available subject stems from my long held naturalist

perspective of representing nature both advocationally and

pictorially especially now in the face of climate collapse.

Coming lately from a photographic background of geometric

formalism my locations are carefully compositionally chosen from

environmentally protected areas, like the New York water shed,

to historic location/scenes in the Hudson Valley, to coastal Maine,

to green spaces in Berlin all of which are part of my annual

location rotation. Following 15 years working in the UN exhibition

department, I felt the need to revert to analog painting. Both nature

and paint reveal their quiet messages to those that are able to

hear and see. Each painting has a story of a documented moment

of exploration and a concentrated meditational event. Paintings

are done in plein air, alla prima, on location, all at once.

My intension with this body of work is to stir one’s feelings about

nature in a deeper way, in an urgent shift of attention.

Stylistically my current work is on the impressionist/expressionist

continuum.

Influences among others: Albert Marquet, Gabriele Münter,

Die Brücke, Ernst Ludwig Kirchner, Fairfield Porter, David Hockney,

Lois Dodd, Maurice de Vlaminck, Marsden Hartly

2023 also saw my work curated into:

New York White Column Artist Registry

Connecticut Audubon Society Residency, Exhibition and Catalogue

BLUE ROOM, group exhibition in Berlin Germany
