Artist Registry

The White Columns Curated Artist Registry is an online platform for emerging and under-recognized artists to share images and information about their respective practices. The Registry seeks to create a context for artists who have yet to benefit from wider critical, curatorial or commercial support. To be eligible, artists cannot be affiliated with a commercial gallery in New York City.

STATEMENT OF WORK

I work with oil paint on canvas or wood. I am interested in portraying effects of light, emotion, and mirroring. I use these techniques to study visual storytelling through my artwork. In Working (2019), a mundane moment of hard work is sublimated with dust and sunlight, creating an ethereal glow. In Dove Tumbling in a Storm (2021), the dove is in danger and has lost control. She is vulnerable to nature’s wind and rain, but she has no choice but to continue her flight. This can be a metaphor for the artist who has to create no matter what perils she faces along the way. In Blue Story (2023) I present a series of images that can create a variety of meanings depending on if it is read right to left, or left to right, highlighting our ability to find narrative in any visual display. I want the work to be open- ended but still present the possibility for narrative. This allows me to explore the subjective qualities of memory, experience, and the creation of identity.
