Artist Registry

The White Columns Curated Artist Registry is an online platform for emerging and under-recognized artists to share images and information about their respective practices. The Registry seeks to create a context for artists who have yet to benefit from wider critical, curatorial or commercial support. To be eligible, artists cannot be affiliated with a commercial gallery in New York City.

STATEMENT OF WORK

My multidisciplinary work is premised on the idea that introspection and the contemplation of mortality—both on a personal and global, cross-species scale—can foster life-affirming redirections beyond the self. My explorations include ethereal, abstract paintings made with bleach and oil paint, sculptural works referencing the human and nonhuman, and sound pieces that function as psychedelic meditations. Branching inward and outward, across time, the works are rooted in the belief that wonder and embodiment are necessary tools for resilience in an age of ecological collapse.

In the Sanative series (titled after an archaic word meaning "healing"), I sew and pull on the threads of repurposed burlap, arriving at a form that is completely other, that resembles a spine or some kind of tentacled creature. Ornately framed miniature paintings, titled with the neologism Sinomia (without a name), serve as an homage to undescribed species, while sculptures of cockroaches connect to notions of extinction and geological time. If these works appear devotional, it is in devotion to the unknown, both within and outside of the body. If they evoke death and grief, it is to remind the viewer that they are alive.
