STATEMENT OF WORK
Alex Cassetti is a Brooklyn based artist and sculptor who explores new approaches to the display and format of images. Cassetti multidisciplinary practice of sculpture, installation, printmaking and photography are used to create captivating ethereal images and dreamlike installations.
As an image maker, Cassetti relies on the camera as an efficient and accurate way of creating images. The camera is used to replicate Cassetti’s eye to document, flatten, and formalize his life. In recent series of installations, In Cassetti's most recent project "Many Suns" he explores the display of images on glass - presenting screen prints in relationship to light, and as three-dimensional objects. The screen-printed glass panels are hung using various techniques to protrude from the gallery wall. Presenting images three dimensionally helps to transform the images into sundial-like sculptures. Through his manipulation of light, shadow, and reflections, Cassetti crafts surreal compositions that invite viewers to contemplate the interplay of time, space, and memory.
