STATEMENT OF WORK

I like to walk. Mornings are good but most likely I’ll walk in the evening. It’s a way to break up the day. To step away from work. To clear the head. These walks quickly became a routine once the pandemic hit. A time when, seemingly overnight, the world teetered. And taking a walk became a way to escape that uncertainty.

These walks were also a way to tune into ones surroundings. To be receptive. To be available. There’s a certain truth to the notion that walking has the power to shift one’s perspective. You never return from a walk with the same frame of mind as when you began one. Walking allows for this beautiful moment where your mind starts to inadvertently wander. Starts to disengage. Starts to be unconsciously present.

And that’s when you’re fully engaged with your surroundings. You start to see. Whether it’s a color combination, an odd composition, a landscape, or a brief moment in time, there’s an emotional provocation that occurs. An initial jolt. Inspiration born from moments of everyday life. And there’s a purity in that moment. A sort of freedom. Anything seems possible. I love those moments. No laboring over meaning or forcing a devised narrative onto it. These paintings are an attempt to capture those moments.
