Artist Registry

The White Columns Curated Artist Registry is an online platform for emerging and under-recognized artists to share images and information about their respective practices. The Registry seeks to create a context for artists who have yet to benefit from wider critical, curatorial or commercial support. To be eligible, artists cannot be affiliated with a commercial gallery in New York City.

STATEMENT OF WORK

My present work began with re-discovering an old lawn flag upstate. By lawn flags, I mean the flat-seamed-nylon, decorative flags that often hang on porches or on front doors. They can serve as welcome signs, announce a season, celebrate bounty, or offer hope. I grew up with these in my hometown, and they were the germinating inspiration for the work. These paintings began as a simple homage to this kitsch object, but subsequently became a medium for making apparently pedestrian objects into their own announcements and gestures.
