Artist Registry

The White Columns Curated Artist Registry is an online platform for emerging and under-recognized artists to share images and information about their respective practices. The Registry seeks to create a context for artists who have yet to benefit from wider critical, curatorial or commercial support. To be eligible, artists cannot be affiliated with a commercial gallery in New York City.

STATEMENT OF WORK

Time keeping across a time line, a life spans as you grow.

Powdered copper mixed with acrylic creates the ground of these paintings. Earth is extracted, crushed, and reused.

Miracle Grow plant food acts as a tarnishing agent sprayed on the copper.

Copper is a natural resource that is often used as a filter or conduit for plumbing. It is often stolen and resold as scrap.

Miracle grow is a supplement for plants. This food source enhances the plants’ growth in collaboration with the sun through photosynthesis. The miracle grow allows CO2 filtering plants to thrive which in turn keeps us alive.

Pain, pleasure, escape, touch.

These different small paintings have manifested as:

Process driven transcripts of solar panels (touch)

My partners breasts (pleasure)

Paintings of the moon from personal photographs (escape)

My leg bruised from an accident in a wood-shop (Pain).

Pain, pleasure, escape, touch.

My paintings draw on fundamental aspects of embodiment through perception and an articulation of feeling, looking, and seeing. Seeing and not being seen. I approach embodiment through both a conceptual and intuitive process in my paintings. Process holds as much meaning as the painted representation of themes, through the ways paint is applied, copper tarnishing, surface texture, and size, which creates an oscillation of perceived experience and a complicated surface tension.

This process makes physical the return to the elemental while bringing into question the role of growth and transformation. These techniques and ideas are forefronted against a backdrop of attempts at technological advancements, such as renewable energy and the search for other habitable planets, which makes physical the fallibility of aspiration at the expense of building a rich internal world and connected society.

The solar panel grid is a promise.

Solar panels convert the energy of the sun into usable electricity, which is analogous to the miracle grow changing the material state of copper through oxidation. Converting one material to another on a flat plane through the intervention of synthetic material.

Synthetic synthesis? Maybe that’s painting.
