Artist Registry

The White Columns Curated Artist Registry is an online platform for emerging and under-recognized artists to share images and information about their respective practices. The Registry seeks to create a context for artists who have yet to benefit from wider critical, curatorial or commercial support. To be eligible, artists cannot be affiliated with a commercial gallery in New York City.

STATEMENT OF WORK

Within my practice I engage questions related to our material engagement with the world, by observing the practice of standardization as developed by the International Standards Organization(ISO). By referencing international paper size standards through the creation of paintings on US letter size copy paper, I am able to embed my work within a 'ready-made' system of distribution while expanding upon issues of access and geographical marginality. I am interested in different forms of exclusion and participation as it relates to the production of art within the limited systems of encounter represented by the determined spaces of galleries and art institutions. Being able to 'visualize' the physical characteristics of a work of art by appropriating 'standards' is an effort to substitute aestheic concerns for the knowledge embedded in working from a location where physical access is complicated.
