Artist Registry
The White Columns Curated Artist Registry is an online platform for emerging and under-recognized artists to share images and information about their respective practices. The Registry seeks to create a context for artists who have yet to benefit from wider critical, curatorial or commercial support. To be eligible, artists cannot be affiliated with a commercial gallery in New York City.

STATEMENT OF WORK
Colors flirt and go for walks. Sensations build, multiply and flow.
My hybrid sculptural paintings focus on the movement intrinsic to color and its non-linear qualities of relation, resonance and rhyme. The works explore the nature of perception, aesthetics and the improbabilities of representation.
Each of the sculptural paintings floats two inches off the wall, allowing the painted reverse side to reflect a glow of color on the wall. The reflected light shifts in differing conditions and forms an immaterial and changing ground for the entire piece. Flaps, collaged patches and curling elements both reveal and obscure hidden colors, simultaneously encouraging multiple relationships and diverse ways to traverse the work. The larger installation work considers each specific site and its light.
In all the works, color and shape co-emerge in an iterative and ricocheting process of making. I employ an idiosyncratic collage process to paint, cut and tape individual pieces of paper in no set sequence but many iterations. Neither color nor shape constitutes a stable pre-existing ground. In this process of merging, a melding of the senses arises. Touch, sound and even smell might suggest a color “rhyme.” Or the sensory swirl of mingled color might suggest a shape. The result is an amalgam of senses, an aggregate.
