Artist Registry

The White Columns Curated Artist Registry is an online platform for emerging and under-recognized artists to share images and information about their respective practices. The Registry seeks to create a context for artists who have yet to benefit from wider critical, curatorial or commercial support. To be eligible, artists cannot be affiliated with a commercial gallery in New York City.

STATEMENT OF WORK

As an artist my practice has focused on lo-fi renderings of new media, questioning notions of “progress”. Inherent to my creative process is the construction of environments, and the use of these environments to examine spatial perception, physical location, and materials. Patterns and repetition are also central to much of the work, referencing film, printing, and sequential media to examine the perception of time. My most recent paintings use found materials as a starting point, acknowledging the density of contemporary visual language. I use these shapes to recreate almost child-like spaces which I then paint and further abstract. I have also returned to film as a medium and am using it to explore plant life and ecological methods of working in media. In my work, there is always, as one sees in my early stop motion animations, the curious tension between screen spaces and lived "real" spaces and all the hidden spaces in between. I am most interested in these hidden spaces, just beyond our perceptions of reality.
