Artist Registry

The White Columns Curated Artist Registry is an online platform for emerging and under-recognized artists to share images and information about their respective practices. The Registry seeks to create a context for artists who have yet to benefit from wider critical, curatorial or commercial support. To be eligible, artists cannot be affiliated with a commercial gallery in New York City.

RESUME

EMILY GORDON  (b.1997) is a Los Angeles based artist whose work explores an intergenerational conversation of familial connection and sensorial experiences in nature. The heart of her practice is abstracting past, present, and future landscapes to create a nonlinear timeline of place. She cuts apart and sews together painted and dyed compositions to create a dense terrain of her own that is reminiscent of textures, smells, times of day, and changes in seasons. These components of world building/world destroying run parallel in Gordon’s modular collages of physical layers. Emily Gordon received her MFA from the University of California Davis as a McNair Graduate Fellowship Recipient. She was recently a Bodega Bay Marine Reserve Bilinski Fellowship Recipient working on a site-specific installation as a collaboration project with PhD Fellow, Tracie Hayes and continued this work with a recent solo exhibition in Yucca Valley, CA, Would you life the veil to take a peak?. Gordon has also  exhibited in a group show, Big Softie, at Soft Times Gallery in San Francisco, and was selected to show with Visionary Projects in the group exhibition While We Were Dreaming. She has also been a Regina Brown Fellowship Recipient through the National Conference of Education on the Ceramic Arts (NCECA), Robert Arneson Award, and a nominee for the Dedalus Foundation MFA Award. She has continually worked with the University of California Nature Reserve to expand her cross disciplinary studio practice across mediums, landscapes, and experiences.
