Artist Registry
The White Columns Curated Artist Registry is an online platform for emerging and under-recognized artists to share images and information about their respective practices. The Registry seeks to create a context for artists who have yet to benefit from wider critical, curatorial or commercial support. To be eligible, artists cannot be affiliated with a commercial gallery in New York City.

RESUME
Bio:
Danny Arenas is the son of Cuban refugees. His father arrived in Miami in the 1960s, unaccompanied by his parents, through a program called Pedro Pan. Growing up, Danny often heard his father say, “Only the strong survive.”
In elementary school, a teacher nicknamed him "Little Boy Blue." Later, he attended an all-boys Jesuit school, where he recalls, “We all had to wear uniforms.” He was often reminded to tuck in his shirt and was even sent home for haircuts—“as my hair was deemed too long.” Danny longed to express how he felt—rebellious within a rigid structure.
He earned decent grades but had limited exposure to art education. The first subject that truly resonated with him was Psychology. In college, his curiosity about art felt like it might implode. With no formal art training and a belief that he could develop his own path outside of academic art circles, he chose to study Psychology.
Danny began painting and making images in 2005. He dove in wholeheartedly. At one point, while working a second job at the Miami-Dade Public Library, he would finish shelving books and spend his remaining time studying art monographs that were yet to be shelved.
In 2009, he moved to New York to pursue painting and photography.
Today, Danny is a licensed social worker, a painter, a photographer, a father, a husband—and, at the same time, he is in the process of dissolving these roles and titles to become nothing.
