Artist Registry

The White Columns Curated Artist Registry is an online platform for emerging and under-recognized artists to share images and information about their respective practices. The Registry seeks to create a context for artists who have yet to benefit from wider critical, curatorial or commercial support. To be eligible, artists cannot be affiliated with a commercial gallery in New York City.

RESUME

Born in 1982, Nam Nguyen is a Vietnamese-Canadian artist based in Berlin. Upon graduating with his MFA in 2008 from Nscad University in Halifax, Nova Scotia, he received the Joseph Plaskett Foundation award to study and work in Europe for a one year period, after which he relocated permanently to Berlin. Working in the medium of oil painting, he explores abstraction as a vehicle for perceptual investigation. With the support of multiple grants from the Canada Council for the Arts, he has undertaken extensive research into the practice of making his own oil paint and gesso from pure pigments. By doing so, he has staked an uncompromising position in abstraction, that aims to alter the viewers perception through vivid effects of spatial depth and radiant color.
