Artist Registry

The White Columns Curated Artist Registry is an online platform for emerging and under-recognized artists to share images and information about their respective practices. The Registry seeks to create a context for artists who have yet to benefit from wider critical, curatorial or commercial support. To be eligible, artists cannot be affiliated with a commercial gallery in New York City.

RESUME

BIO:

Steve Spencer didn’t get serious about creating art until he was well past forty.  Then he dove headfirst into creating exuberant acrylic paintings and three-dimensional assemblages that mash together folk and pop art in a musical fashion.

As a child, Steve’s art was shown in museums in Little Rock and Memphis, but his school only offered two years of art class.  After careers in investment banking and advertising, free-lancing gave Steve pockets of time to explore painting again.

Steve has synesthesia, music makes him see colors and forms.  He is working to create exuberant canvases, with rhythms and moods and feelings akin to those evoked by the music of Earth, Wind & Fire, Charles Mingus, Phillip Glass and Antonio Carlos Jobim.

Spencer’s unique outsider style and storytelling bent have drawn regional and national attention, and presented him with a range of expressive avenues.
