Artist Registry

The White Columns Curated Artist Registry is an online platform for emerging and under-recognized artists to share images and information about their respective practices. The Registry seeks to create a context for artists who have yet to benefit from wider critical, curatorial or commercial support. To be eligible, artists cannot be affiliated with a commercial gallery in New York City.

STATEMENT OF WORK

Exploring nature, the body and mind are transformed and fused with the elements. Trees develop neurons and human limbs sprout like wood. The mind of the child is open to these experiences and meanders through a cartoon translation of forests and caves, flowers and stars. There is no boundary between bone and stone, blood and water, all is protean. Yet the fairytale is menacing. With loss of stability and solidity comes loss of control. Individuality vanishes into the churning void of nature. With little left to hold on to humanity but trinkets like a candle or a pair of shoes, a hair ribbon or a jar of fireflies, the child asks, “I’m not me?” And the forest replies with bewildered expressions and silence.
