The White Columns Curated Artist Registry is an online catalog of digital images documenting the work of artists who are not affiliated with a commercial gallery in New York City. Each submission is reviewed by our curatorial staff; in order to be considered for the registry, one must submit work digitally via this website.
My current work is a series of photographs about daydreams. I set up vignettes using plastic bags to create the illusion of ice, air, or water. This series began when I noticed how beautiful plastic bags are when light shines through them. Sometimes I use them to simulate mist, at other times I create atmospheres that look like water or translucent ice. I use toys to help establish the environment. The blurriness of the bags makes the scenes appear like a foggy memory or the miniature world of a snow globe. I am trying to reinforce the feeling of containment and separation of an imaginary world and also distance and a vague longing for the past.
