Artist Registry

The White Columns Curated Artist Registry is an online platform for emerging and under-recognized artists to share images and information about their respective practices. The Registry seeks to create a context for artists who have yet to benefit from wider critical, curatorial or commercial support. To be eligible, artists cannot be affiliated with a commercial gallery in New York City.

STATEMENT OF WORK

My practice evolves from my use of text as a visual language by literally using my sentences as the subject. The sight of bisected-text provokes curiosity in the viewer as they try to read, decipher and engage with the work. To address the viewer as more than a speculative bystander in a passive viewing mode, and to move them to an assertive interaction and participation with art is my essential motivation.

My process was formed through my teaching and reading of art theory with my thoughts and writings about theory becoming text templates for artworks. Instead of process dictating form, my installations become discursive sites where the viewers engage with visual languages to decipher meaning as they participate in a "real-time" experience of art.
