Artist Registry

The White Columns Curated Artist Registry is an online platform for emerging and under-recognized artists to share images and information about their respective practices. The Registry seeks to create a context for artists who have yet to benefit from wider critical, curatorial or commercial support. To be eligible, artists cannot be affiliated with a commercial gallery in New York City.

STATEMENT OF WORK

Ana de la Cueva's work elaborates on issues regarding territories, history, feminism, identity, tradition, and transformation in contemporary society. Her multimedia practice oscillates between abstraction and figuration and encompasses embroidery, ceramics, photography, video, printmaking, painting, and sculpture. Her work often entails interacting with others. These exchanges are then materialized to question power, gender-politics, and interpersonal relations, often through a humorous lens. De la Cueva's range and technical mastery of materials is evident in her symbolic use of thread across all media to stimulate a reflection on the traces left by economic, social, and cultural conditions, labor issues, violence, and invisibility.
