Artist Registry

The White Columns Curated Artist Registry is an online platform for emerging and under-recognized artists to share images and information about their respective practices. The Registry seeks to create a context for artists who have yet to benefit from wider critical, curatorial or commercial support. To be eligible, artists cannot be affiliated with a commercial gallery in New York City.

STATEMENT OF WORK

These hybrid forms—comprised of scavenged twigs and cord—are an amalgam of ‘natural’ and ‘manmade’, a melding of drawing and sculpture.  Air and the way line can impact space is essential to their construction.  Some hang from the wall, others are suspended from the ceiling.  They all reflect my long-held interest in bridging various dichotomies: permanent/transient material states, organic/geometric shape, positive/negative space, gravity/weightlessness.

I've often foraged for twigs to use in my work, but this inclination became an obsession with Covid's arrival in 2020.  Long walks in the park sustained me during NYC's lockdown; my focus on reanimating dead tree branches continues to evolve in unforseen ways.
