Artist Registry

The White Columns Curated Artist Registry is an online platform for emerging and under-recognized artists to share images and information about their respective practices. The Registry seeks to create a context for artists who have yet to benefit from wider critical, curatorial or commercial support. To be eligible, artists cannot be affiliated with a commercial gallery in New York City.

STATEMENT OF WORK

I was born with congenital defects of the heart, requiring two separate open-heart surgeries as an adult. Unfortunately these procedures resulted in complications. On April 21, 2014 I had my first stroke. Physically I was perfect, but I couldn’t speak. The only thing I could say was : sorry and thank you. My second stroke was April 2016. Again, I had Aphasia, and remained in speech therapy for years.

I have been expressing myself by creating a visual language through my sculpture. The glass from which they are made are discovered from the streets, parks, trash cans, and flower beds of Brooklyn, as are the interior objects. The stacking vessels are never glued together, but rather precisely enclosed suggesting a fragility (maintain stability with the help of gravity).

If I had the opportunity to have a solo show, the title would be: “Pulling a Never Ending String Out of My Throat”.  That was an image that came to me in a dream, or maybe a nightmare. Which means I can’t speak.

Hopefully you like my sculptures; thoughtful ideas or fairytales with intellect, humor and warm insight. Some of my pieces are beautiful solo, and sometimes three vessels together are fun.  I just need a solid, level for a table, shelf or pedestal.

I encourage you to choose your favorite works. I’ll set it up for you. We’ll leave the bottle with a message inside floating in a river; and we’ll see if anyone catches it.
