The White Columns Curated Artist Registry is an online catalog of digital images documenting the work of artists who are not affiliated with a commercial gallery in New York City. Each submission is reviewed by our curatorial staff; in order to be considered for the registry, one must submit work digitally via this website.
My practice engages the long human history of idolization and the impulses from which it springs.
For the past year I’ve focused my attention on one of the subjects most traditionally and problematically idolized---the female figure. Casting a deliberately wide net, I re-imagine the Venus as Chimera. Disregarding historical parameters of the genre, my figures are formed by the fusion of image, object and traditions of abstraction. In addition, body printing, blind drawing and finger-painting congress with more rigorous aspects of picture making. Coexisting with these intentional moves, I include all color mixing, testing and brush wiping within the picture plane. My interest lies in the tension between these modes of mark making and the actual remnants of the working process.
The installations included here are not married to the paintings, but rather come and go as fantasy interiors or stage sets.
