The White Columns Curated Artist Registry is an online catalog of digital images documenting the work of artists who are not affiliated with a commercial gallery in New York City. Each submission is reviewed by our curatorial staff; in order to be considered for the registry, one must submit work digitally via this website.
My paintings are made in a process that formally meanders between the realms of observation and invention. Often an object or a particular life experience is at the heart of the work to begin with, but only because it serves as a spark. The rest is a play of translation in parts, a fumbling or groping about to find an identity or character for the work. As possibilities for form and space open up, they perhaps become maps, records of conscious and unconscious engagement with my surroundings, with an idea, or both. The paintings are tuning forks, breadcrumbs, and red herrings. They are objects and indexes, specific but not always clear, hopefully revealing their true subjects with feeling.
