Artist Registry

The White Columns Curated Artist Registry is an online platform for emerging and under-recognized artists to share images and information about their respective practices. The Registry seeks to create a context for artists who have yet to benefit from wider critical, curatorial or commercial support. To be eligible, artists cannot be affiliated with a commercial gallery in New York City.

Sound Sketches

Each piece includes the sound of a single shape being drawn. As the viewer listens to each sound, they face a single word written on the wall in front of them (i.e. circle, square, rectangle). The duration and volume of the drawn line dictates the approximated length and distance of the line. As the viewer connects the sound to the word, they imagine each line being drawn and the shape taking form. The viewer actualizes the drawing as they listen, but only as an idea. The range of slight inconsistencies and possibilities amongst each viewing become infinite. A shape, such as a square, is no longer a concrete figure; but rather exists as an ephemeral idea. *Installation: Each sound file is on an individual mp3 player mounted to the wall with headphones (waist high). The title of the piece is written eye level directly on the wall in pencil (i.e. “1. Circle”, “2. Square”, “3. Rectangle”, “4. Oval”).
