Artist Registry

The White Columns Curated Artist Registry is an online platform for emerging and under-recognized artists to share images and information about their respective practices. The Registry seeks to create a context for artists who have yet to benefit from wider critical, curatorial or commercial support. To be eligible, artists cannot be affiliated with a commercial gallery in New York City.

STATEMENT OF WORK

I combine word and image to create narratives open to disparate readings and imaginative interpretations. This process is rarely (if ever) straightforward: sometimes a text is the impetus for a new work; other times, a desire to work with certain images creates the need for a text that will “accompany” the images.  But no matter how a work begins, my mining of the rich, often contradictory, relationship between word and image is aimed at enabling viewers to draw their own conclusions. In DOUBLE PORTRAIT (an artists' book) or silent films such as "The Last of Beirut" and "The Happy Man...or so I have heard myself called", it is my audience that completes the meaning of the work – by bridging the distance between word and image, the imaginative space between reading, looking, and seeing.
