Artist Registry

The White Columns Curated Artist Registry is an online platform for emerging and under-recognized artists to share images and information about their respective practices. The Registry seeks to create a context for artists who have yet to benefit from wider critical, curatorial or commercial support. To be eligible, artists cannot be affiliated with a commercial gallery in New York City.

STATEMENT OF WORK

I have spent much of my life creating music and sound; as an individual performer and within group contexts.  Building off a foundation in classical and jazz guitar, I have found my way to a wide range of compositional styles and modes.  Over the last 15 years, I have sustained an individual composition practice, with releases spread amongst various record labels and performances that have taken me across the US, and to Europe and South America.  My work is curious about dissecting notions of “folk music”; working with pedal steel guitar, guitar, percussion, hardware and software synthesis, and more in order to get at the uncertainty of definition.  I also incorporate text, fabric, and sound sculptures in an evolving sound installation practice that works from and towards similar themes.  As an arts educator, I teach mostly young and middle age adult students in guitar performance, electroacoustic composition, and deep listening practices.  It gives me a lot of joy to work with young and middle aged adults; helping them to emerge from creative ruts and entwine their music making with their daily lives.  I also operate a record label, Lobby Art Editions, with an emphasis on presenting a range of musical forms, methods, and approaches in addition to creating a community minded approach with an initiative “Todo Está Aquí (Everything is Here)” where portions of proceeds of each release are donated to local community organizations.
