Artist Registry

The White Columns Curated Artist Registry is an online platform for emerging and under-recognized artists to share images and information about their respective practices. The Registry seeks to create a context for artists who have yet to benefit from wider critical, curatorial or commercial support. To be eligible, artists cannot be affiliated with a commercial gallery in New York City.

STATEMENT OF WORK

My paintings are based on my interest in the human/animal bond that requires us to be present in the moment, not distracted by news or technology which seem to drain us every day. It comes from my heartbreak for stray dogs that I see when I travel. And from my experience fostering for a local animal shelter and building trust with varied feline personalities. My goal is to produce paintings that connect you to an animal, even if not your pet, and to consider their domesticated experience.

Placing animals in imagined interior settings, I approach the painting from my idea of the animal’s perspective and the contrast between the interior environments we impose on them and the natural world outside that invigorates their animal spirit. Color, composition and often a story or symbolism are considered in developing a painting.
