STATEMENT OF WORK
If painting succeeds in being important about something, that is to tell a story. Through it, a new world becomes real within the context of a frame; Similarly in theatre, within the frame of the stage, what happens on it, is very different from what happens behind it; equally, the dynamic of a mask, differs from the person under it. These opposite forces in harmony and contrast, concentrate the dynamic of life. The reality of a painting is not separated from the pragmatism (reality) of life. In my viewpoint we live the surreal and "reality" stumbles upon us only with the pragmatic brutality of birth, love and death. In my work, the questioning of the above situations becomes literal, through the search of a human characteristic in a metaphysical landscape. Either through observational studies of actual theatrical plays, paintings and memories, or through assumed and imaginary situations that deal with the sence of chance, I am constantly in search of "Le Hasard d'être" meaning "the fate/chance of being", which in my perception rely's on the idea of the observer and the observed, the coincidence or complete randomness - the stage and backstage from the theatre we call life.
