Artist Registry

The White Columns Curated Artist Registry is an online platform for emerging and under-recognized artists to share images and information about their respective practices. The Registry seeks to create a context for artists who have yet to benefit from wider critical, curatorial or commercial support. To be eligible, artists cannot be affiliated with a commercial gallery in New York City.

RESUME

chandni amira dhanoa is a contemporary artist + community organizer based between lenape land (new york city) and kumeyaay land (southern california). through a combination of materials, conversation, and sites, their work explores subversive rituals and relational ecosystems within the punjabi diaspora, guerrilla healing + guerrilla gardening via intergenerational wisdom, and regenerative agriculture + archaeology. their practice is rooted in environmental sustainability and equity, incorporating found objects and familial heirlooms, repurposed textiles, local earthware, and dialogue to create their artifacts, which are consistently evolving in shape, weight, and behavior.

amira received a bachelors of science from nyu tandon school of engineering + stern school of business, where they concentrated in civil engineering, integrated digital media, and social entrepreneurship.

they have previously held positions at a range of nonprofits + initiatives operating across environmental justice, decentralized food systems, and natural products. most recently, amira has served @intersectionalenvironmentalist as engagement + communications director. up until recently, their creative practice has been a coping mechanism + form of answering their own questions about their culture, lineage, growing pains, and experiences in the liminal space between consciousness and unconsciousness as it relates to spirituality and faith. at present, amira has prioritized her creative process ahead of their debut show in the spring.
