Artist Registry

The White Columns Curated Artist Registry is an online platform for emerging and under-recognized artists to share images and information about their respective practices. The Registry seeks to create a context for artists who have yet to benefit from wider critical, curatorial or commercial support. To be eligible, artists cannot be affiliated with a commercial gallery in New York City.

Fall of the Red Velvet Rope

“The Fall of the Red Velvet Rope” examines the function the red velvet rope plays as a tool in segregating and privatizing public space into small fragmented private spaces. Symbolizing a type of exclusivity, the red velvet rope creates a boundary or barrier between classes of people and locations. Acting as an exaggerated metaphor, the rope barrier transcends its function as an object itself and begins to exist within ones physical, psychological and/or emotional space. This video project is part of a larger series of works that hopes to obliterate the original context of the rope by destroying the rope itself hence, liberating it from its original meaning and the divide it creates.
