The White Columns Curated Artist Registry is an online catalog of digital images documenting the work of artists who are not affiliated with a commercial gallery in New York City. Each submission is reviewed by our curatorial staff; in order to be considered for the registry, one must submit work digitally via this website.
With my recent work, I attempt to initiate a refreshing experience by stimulating contemplation and escapism in a viewer. My painting process combines an array of mark-making with an additive and subtractive layering technique. This process enables me to continuously cover and expose the underlying -reflective- stainless steel platform until the desired balance of paint and steel surface is achieved. This balance, mostly determined by form and subject, plays a crucial role as it allows the painted image to coalesce with the reflected light and motion. The result, are paintings that appear to be in constant flux, navigating between a depicted and a "real" environment. My hope is that the experience of viewing my work will resonate, allowing me to effectively comment on present-day social and environmental issues while revealing how I see the world around me -interconnected and infinitely shifting between the familiar and unfamiliar.
