The White Columns Curated Artist Registry is an online catalog of digital images documenting the work of artists who are not affiliated with a commercial gallery in New York City. Each submission is reviewed by our curatorial staff; in order to be considered for the registry, one must submit work digitally via this website.
"Symmetrical Procedures", begun in 2003, is an ongoing series of drawings within the parameters of symmetry, abstraction, and carbon mediums. Abstraction gives me freedom, while symmetry brings resolution. These small graphite pencil drawings self-organizes into groups and subgroups in a carefully edited proliferation of possibilities. The other trajectory of my work is "Fingerings", drawn directly on the wall with my fingers dipped in charcoal, sometimes using both hands simultaneously, using the symmetrical gestures of the body. This work grew out of the small "Symmetrical Procedure" drawings, the first one being at Artists Space, in 2009. Since then I have done 30 large site-specific installations at museums and galleries, as well as commercial and private commissions. Currently I am also making small Fingerings which isolate emblematic moments from the more expansive pieces. My early works, as Judith WEINPERSON, 1984-1994, were large-scale xerox wall installations, and realistic figurative paintings, which can be viewed on my website.
