The White Columns Curated Artist Registry is an online catalog of digital images documenting the work of artists who are not affiliated with a commercial gallery in New York City. Each submission is reviewed by our curatorial staff; in order to be considered for the registry, one must submit work digitally via this website.
In my work I explore the relationships that people develop with things they collect and care for. I am interested in how inherited objects are interwoven with personal stories to develop our understandings of History, in a way that makes them go beyond their simple physical existence by linking the cultural values of successive generations. My subjects are friends and acquaintances with whom I develop a unique personal relationship that allows me to share intimate family stories and life enriching experiences. I investigate their peculiar secret habits, their emotional attachments with particular objects, old traditions and rich cultural values. By juxtaposing images and doubling photographs, I establish multiple layers of interpretation and examine the relationships between portraiture, archival photographs, and still life. Each image establishes a different reference of time: the archival photographs create a link with the past by identifying the object and evoking its historical context, the still-life.
