The White Columns Curated Artist Registry is an online catalog of digital images documenting the work of artists who are not affiliated with a commercial gallery in New York City. Each submission is reviewed by our curatorial staff; in order to be considered for the registry, one must submit work digitally via this website.
Now, image-memory swells in this era of mass documenting, mining, and archiving. The collective image-bank, like the universe, expands daily.
The world’s memory of images provides me with the image-products
of the entire documented history of mankind.
This phenomenon of expansion has an unprecedented impact on erudition,
and is the most active agent affecting my work.
Whatever the media, my work nearly always results in a non-image.
The mystery of the mark-making in my work is the mystery of grappling —
an active state of attempting to understand something of our present, and to make something of our past. Marks are real, physical indices of this effort.
Recorded language was born of marks.
