The White Columns Curated Artist Registry is an online catalog of digital images documenting the work of artists who are not affiliated with a commercial gallery in New York City. Each submission is reviewed by our curatorial staff; in order to be considered for the registry, one must submit work digitally via this website.
My work involves systematic processes that reflect personal observations and interactions with familiar elements of suburbia. Coexisting with the pervasive presence of suburban consumerism, my work offers a perspective that is both critical and tolerant. Analyzing and restructuring materials from contemporary culture, I create personal, and often absurd, abstractions that examine visual, conceptual, and emotional aspects of big box stores, drive-thru menus, product packaging, and parking lots. By using rigorous formulas and systems as methods to objectively dissect the scenery common to the suburban American landscape, a distorted presence of utopian ideals is exposed in these modern achievements of convenience and living. Interaction with this seemingly impersonal content reveals an ambiguous sense of intimate distance within the inherent banality of consumerism that infiltrates almost every aspect of my personal life and household.
