The White Columns Curated Artist Registry
is an online platform for emerging and under-recognized artists to share images and information about their respective practices. The Registry seeks to create a context for artists who have yet to benefit from wider critical, curatorial or commercial support. STATEMENT OF WORK
My work is driven by a fascination with the art of storytelling and personal narrative. In making movies and sculptures, I question how place can shape the lived experiences and interior lives of my subjects. I try to create an open and sympathetic space for exploring the socioeconomic realities and psychology of everyday life. I am interested in the chain of consequences that lead us into our reality - how events and environments shape people’s lives and how, in turn, people shape their own lives through self-narrative. My approach is quasi-documentary, using people’s real life stories and adapting them into more fantastical cinematic and sculptural scenarios. It is an inherently collaborative approach, one that forefronts both the subjects themselves, and the conditions of surrounding my filming of our interactions and conversations.
