The White Columns Curated Artist Registry is an online catalog of digital images documenting the work of artists who are not affiliated with a commercial gallery in New York City. Each submission is reviewed by our curatorial staff; in order to be considered for the registry, one must submit work digitally via this website.
I make work across many formats including sculpture, sound, text and image to create ongoing systems of ideas and forms. I aim to make work that oscillates between perceived functions and meanings as it moves through different contexts.
I often pull from proximity and personal experience while lettings works collect from their environments, to build site-aware exhibitions that exist as stations on a continuum. I think about exhibitions as object waiting stations through which ideas and forms can move, performing as a group before departing. I work in iterations, following materials and ideas across different mutable forms.
In making works I focus on recalling material and formal histories and I aim to embrace the porous abilities of objects to record and gain meaning from their surroundings. Works often process their environment directly and certain sculptures sample their surrounding airspace, interpreting the invisible as lists or visuals which can enter into future work. Accordingly, I try to work in a generative or anticipatory way, where objects point ahead of themselves by documenting their vicinity.
