Recently my subject matter has begun to focus on rainbows. Undeniably magical they are here and then gone, I am drawn to their ephemerality their transient joy. They contrast or enhance the landscape, and transform entire surroundings for a brief moment. A rainbow is shaped color in space, at root that is what my work is.
This work is informed by color and movement in the natural landscape; reflections, sunsets, and waterfalls. I am interested in each piece referencing both painting and sculpture, and their relation to each other through negative space. I use color as a means to create a second layer of mark making, and dimensionality. I am hypnotized by radiant light, I aim for my color use to be luminous and glowing. My process does not move in a linear progression, often changing modes of work and materials. I paint in many thin translucent layers on wood to achieve a holographic effect. By embracing the entire spectrum I do not shy away from any color, no shade is too bright no color too dark.
