The White Columns Curated Artist Registry is an online catalog of digital images documenting the work of artists who are not affiliated with a commercial gallery in New York City. Each submission is reviewed by our curatorial staff; in order to be considered for the registry, one must submit work digitally via this website.
My work usually begins with exploring narrative, but ultimately reveals itself through the process of painting and drawing itself, within which I’m always attempting to push color relationships and compositional strategies. Often semi-narrative and figurative components combine with flat abstraction, decoration and repetitious elements. In many of my drawings miniature characters are housed in ambiguous, fractured and often-subterranean spaces. Frequently both anxiety and a sense of refuge exist between characters and their surroundings. The flatness of my drawings trap the protagonists and suggested narratives are drowned out by or presented in equal volume to the abstract and decorative nature of the work.
I also work with wood and ceramic, creating “statuettes” that operate in a similar way.
