The White Columns Curated Artist Registry is an online catalog of digital images documenting the work of artists who are not affiliated with a commercial gallery in New York City. Each submission is reviewed by our curatorial staff; in order to be considered for the registry, one must submit work digitally via this website.
My artworks explore my relationship with physicality – what it feels like to touch a surface, how materials decay over time and how the decay of some materials contributes to the regeneration of others. I pursue the physical act of deconstructing surfaces through cumulative mark making, a process that lives between destruction and creation. I use carving tools to irritate, cut, and crawl on paper to create sculptural drawings and paper sculptures, asking: when do works on paper become works of paper? My mission is to entirely transform my materials, by strictly reworking that which is already there; the fibers of the page. These investigations have taught me how strongly physical surface relates to the psychological impact a drawing can elicit. I aspire to create visual encounters that allow the viewer to experience human presence left on the page.
