The White Columns Curated Artist Registry is an online catalog of digital images documenting the work of artists who are not affiliated with a commercial gallery in New York City. Each submission is reviewed by our curatorial staff; in order to be considered for the registry, one must submit work digitally via this website.
My practice relies on identifying intimacy as an economic necessity in the corporate image. While intimacy is appropriated into the everyday vernacular of corporate spaces, interestingly, the images and consumer architectures remain arid of the human relation it seeks to produce. Through employing the strategies of industrial image making as an artistic practice, my work investigates how emotion is appropriated from the public and transformed into commodity; creating an economic circuit of dehumanization. By adopting the devices of mainstream visual culture, I hope to resituate its language in order to capture the emotional cavity and alienation that is the consequential reality of corporate sponsored optimism. The sculptures and images in my work become a consumable space where one can window shop for frustration, anxiety and criticality that has been denied by mainstream visual culture.
