The White Columns Curated Artist Registry is an online catalog of digital images documenting the work of artists who are not affiliated with a commercial gallery in New York City. Each submission is reviewed by our curatorial staff; in order to be considered for the registry, one must submit work digitally via this website.
I employ the practice of image making by embracing the confines of “photography”. Photography, defined by the utilizing of chemicals and the act of exposing silver based emulsion to light to in turn create images. I embrace the magic of the photographic process to push the limitations of analogue photography.
These images are recreating a visual history of self, one that was lost in a hurricane a few years back. Peeling back all the prints and negatives marred by the dirty waters, I thought I only found stains and mold left as evidence of the memories of my histories past. I am now ripping, tearing, and then slowly layering those images to piece back together a new contemporary visual story of self-identity.
The images were shot with a 4x5 camera on film then printed by my hand in an analogue darkroom.
