The White Columns Curated Artist Registry is an online catalog of digital images documenting the work of artists who are not affiliated with a commercial gallery in New York City. Each submission is reviewed by our curatorial staff; in order to be considered for the registry, one must submit work digitally via this website.
My paintings are predominately concerned with the image and painting’s ability to manipulate pictorial space by creating tension between the background and foreground. The support is often patterned fabric which inherently carries meaning that relates to various themes such as taste or cultural symbolism or simply functioning as a readymade aesthetic.
The fabrics’ readymade aesthetic plays an important part in defining the direction of the painting and ultimately the images that I select. My decisions are often based on finding chance happenings between the fabric and image. I am interested in creating simple interventions that often obscure or intertwine the image into the surface of the painting. Each painting also has implications on the next one this keeps the project fresh with an element of chance.
