The White Columns Curated Artist Registry is an online catalog of digital images documenting the work of artists who are not affiliated with a commercial gallery in New York City. Each submission is reviewed by our curatorial staff; in order to be considered for the registry, one must submit work digitally via this website.
Nathan Shafer is a media artist, writer and educator from Anchorage, Alaska. He works with expanded media, constructing a wide range of socially interactive and technology based projects. He founded the Institute for Speculative Media, which develops new media curriculum, after-school programs, and provides access to mobile technology for kids in Alaska. From 2011 to 2013 he was an Art House Resident at Out North Contemporary Art House where he designed mixed reality projects in the Arctic including the Exit Glacier AR Terminus Project, which digitally reconstructed five of the former termini at Exit Glacier on location in Kenai Fjords National Park using mobile augmented reality. In 2014 he received an Anchorage Centennial Grant to develop a four part augmented storytelling project called Anchorage Narratives. He was profiled by PBS Digital Studios as part of the a collaborative called ?The Future? with Indie Alaska and received a Rasmuson Individual Artist Award for his project Seward?s Success, which is an AR realization of what was supposed to be the worlds first domed city, built across the Knik Arm from Anchorage.
