The White Columns Curated Artist Registry is an online catalog of digital images documenting the work of artists who are not affiliated with a commercial gallery in New York City. Each submission is reviewed by our curatorial staff; in order to be considered for the registry, one must submit work digitally via this website.
Cecilia Schmidt grew up in Louisville, Kentucky, the first member of her family who was born in the US. Her parents, Holocaust survivors, left Germany after years of waiting in several DP camps for permission from the US government. Schmidt attended the University of Kentucky, received her B.F.A in sculpture and M.F.A. in combined media from Arizona State University, and studied photography at The International Center for Photography in New York. Her work in photography, painting, sculpture and video has been exhibited nationally and internationally. She lives and works in Brooklyn, NY.
