The White Columns Curated Artist Registry is an online catalog of digital images documenting the work of artists who are not affiliated with a commercial gallery in New York City. Each submission is reviewed by our curatorial staff; in order to be considered for the registry, one must submit work digitally via this website.
Pouran Esrafily was born in Iran. She studied architecture in Kansas University and worked on projects like the Holocaust Memorial Museum in Washington DC. while working for IM Pei in New York. Her sculptural furniture and lighting designs were exhibited in International shows and were included in a group show by Alchemia in Milan with the likes of Satsas, Mendini, Palladino and Stark. She studied acting at Herbert Berghof Studio in New York. She participated in an improvisational theater called ABC No Rio and had lead roles in independent films, one of them called, The Suitors, premiered in Cannes Film Festival.
She met Louise Bourgeois in 1994 and began collaborating with her. She wrote, directed and performed in a video at Bourgeois Studio with her sculptures to express her creative process of exorcism. Esrafily made a short experimental film about the life and work of Louise Bourgeois with Bourgeois playing herself. Esrafily filmed and moderated Louise Bourgeois' Sunday Salons from it's beginning in1997 to 2007 when it ended.
She withdrew into nature and solitude in 2000. She began Painting and Writing in 2000. Since 2010 She has made several films:
