The White Columns Curated Artist Registry is an online catalog of digital images documenting the work of artists who are not affiliated with a commercial gallery in New York City. Each submission is reviewed by our curatorial staff; in order to be considered for the registry, one must submit work digitally via this website.
Melanie McLain has exhibited her videos and installations at the Institute of Contemporary Art in Philadelphia, Virginia Museum of Contemporary Art in Virginia Beach, Allegra LaViola in New York, Primetime in Brooklyn, and Galleria NoMINIO in Guayaquil Ecuador. Her work has been written about by Hyperallergic and Maisonneuve. She was awarded the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts Professional Fellowship and a residency at the Santa Fe Art Institute. McLain completed a dual degree in Sculpture and Psychology from the University of Florida in 2006 and earned an MFA in Sculpture + Extended Media from Virginia Commonwealth University in 2012. She has trained in different forms of acrobatic movement for 25 years, including gymnastics, breakdancing, and partner acrobatics. McLain lives, works, and trains in New York.
