-------------------- Subject: the longest facebook message ever
Micheal, So I tried but couldn't find you when leaving the restaurant, to say goodbye. but congratulations again on a strong solo debut(!) and thanks for inviting me to a very fun opening,,,, and i mean that as a big compliment believing the vitality of the discourse and community the work inspires on that opening night is a good indicator of its quality ... but neither the bustling opening (nor a facebook form field) is the best vehicle for feedback, so i look foreword to talking to you about it next time I see you. i didn't know your work very well before, but was impressed by the volume of divergent visual languages it was juggling (manga porn, white conceptualist cubes, teen summer camp culture, tom finland stylized clones, modernist grid systems vs fractal post-modern pastiche, narrative comics, japanese isometric interior court-scapes vs chiness landscape perspective, the dirty play in serious and sterile death machine, centralized institutional spaces that buckle to bound henry darger-esque gang of outsiders, feral energy,, automated in paul chang starkness, linear vs atemporal vs extemporal snapshot vs cyclical spiral time,) and then its synthesis in an effortless semi-unified space deceivingly accessible on first glance... yet the opposite of effortless for its precision and staging...
Still intriguing is how this would all connect in your life experience. And the ambiguous emotional register is also unsettling... desperate compulsive acts of reproduction as some vague protest for…. soullessness? dude this is sounding like a really overwrought press release so I’ll quit now, now that i wasn’t going to do this in the first place. but i figured its nice to have as many perspectives on record makes at least for good mementos of ones formative steps.
OK, mikey, catch ya later --------------------
